Lifecycle Cost Analysis of Recycled Asphalt Pavements: Determining Cost of Recycled Materials for an Urban Highway Section

نویسندگان

چکیده

Growing demand for road infrastructures and accompanying environmental footprint calls the replacement of pavement materials with recycled options. The complexities in real-world usability are dependent upon project-specific characteristics affected by budgetary constraints local governmental agencies, material applicability, climatical conditions. This study conducts a comprehensive lifecycle cost analysis (LCCA) an urban highway section “E10” hot Middle Eastern climate Abu Dhabi, where virgin asphalt usage is dominant, using actual data under multiple scenarios construction waste (RCW) across aggregate layers (RAP) wearing, binder, base courses. Blast furnace slag as partial cement concrete works also analysed. Impacts all stages from initial earthworks to routine maintenance operation were compared. Results found that sustainable lower. Cost reduction was highest RAP RCW usage, particularly when accumulated. optimum scenario used 25% sub-base, 80% unbound base, warm-mix (WMA) 15% binder wearing courses, 65% roadworks resulted USD 2.6 million (15%) over 30 years 2015 2045.

Utilization of Recycled Asphalt Concrete with Warm Mix Asphalt and Cost-Benefit Analysis

The asphalt paving industries are faced with two major problems. These two important challenges are generated with an increase in demand for environmentally friendly paving mixtures and the problem of rapidly rising raw materials. Recycling of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) is a critical necessity to save precious aggregates and reduce the use of costly bitumen. Warm Mix Asphalt (WMA) technol...

Environmental Impacts of Producing Asphalt Mixtures with Varying Degrees of Recycled Asphalt Materials

The environmental impacts of producing asphalt mixtures with different percentages of asphalt binder replacement (ABR) are assessed using the technique of life cycle assessment (LCA). In this paper, only the material production phase of the pavement life cycle is considered. To improve the quality of the LCA, a regionalized life cycle inventory (LCI) database for the Northern Illinois region is...
